About GunnisonCounty.net
Now I'll admit Gunnison County is that far and vast county west of here, being that I live in Buena Vista, but with all of my photography adventures up and over Cottonwood Pass this summer, it did not seem like that far of a reach. My first impression of Gunnison County was it's just a large, barren, wide open wasteland - just a boring stretch of 75 miles on Highway 50 enroute to much more alluring spots such as Ouray, Telluride, the San Juan Mountains, Colorado National Monument and other cool spots on the western slope. There is no question the stretch from Monarch Pass to Montrose is a tough drive! Ah, but then I recently befriended a guy named George Hoherd, who lived in quite a few areas of Gunnison County. His stories and input about interesting places to go kind of inspired me and gave me a new outlook on good ol' Gunnison County. The beauty of Gunnison County is a little subtle, but it undoubtedly has many wonderful places. The town of Gunnison actually has an interesting college town feel. Crested Butte is a world-class ski town with quite a down-to-earth presentation. I must confess, however, that I have never visited the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and so maybe this web site will get me off my duff and visit! :) Stay tuned! I regularly update this web site and please say "hi" on the Gunnison County Discussion Forum. -Steve
P.S. The photo above is of myself during a ride of the Telluride Gondola. Yep, it was one of those times that I had to drive across Gunnison County and got the wrong impression about it. ;) |
